10. SATAN AS YOUR UN-INVITED (UNSEEN) COMPANION..???

In The Name Of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

The writer feels that this will be an interesting topic but a bit controversial, i.e., due to the topic title - satan, your un-invited (unseen) companion...?  How can this be..? Allah says, whoever turns away from the guidance of the al-Qur'an, Allah will appoint for him satan as his companion..! Which ayat in the al-Qur'an says so...? Let's examine!

Before we start discussing this topic, the writer would like to appeal to those who have copyright over some of the pictures that the writer used for illustration purposes in this topic,.......just to make it more interesting. Now, let's begin with the topic.

If one does not understand the Qu'ran Arabic language (Arabic Fus-ha), can they depend on the translation? Although there is only one (1) version of the al Qur'an, there are, however, several translations. Let's take, for example, the English translation. I believe there are at least 6 versions. The English standard used by the translators is of a high standard. For normal readers, the writer would like to recommend the translation by Mohsin Khan or Sahih International, which are easier to understand. The best, of course, is for one to learn Arabic fus-ha, where one will learn word by word translation in their own mother language.

Ibrahim (14:1)

Alif-Lam-Ra. (These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings). (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad SAW) so that you might lead mankind out of darkness (of disbelief and polytheism) unto light (of belief in the Oneness of Allah and Islamic Monotheism) by their Lord's (Creator) leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.

 

Al-Rad (13:1)

Alif-Lam-Mim-Ra (These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'an, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings). These are the Verses of the Book (the Qur'an), which that has been revealed unto you (Muhammad SAW) from your creator is truth, but most men believe not.

 Al-Alaq (96:1)

                     Read...! In the Name of your Lord (Creator), Who has created (all that exists)

Allah revealed the first ayat as .....Read! Allah commanded us to take Prophet Muhammad S.A.W as an example or a role model on how we should practice our Muslim faith. (see Al-Ahzab 33:21). Since Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. understands Arabic Fus-ha, it is a MUST for us to understand Arabic Fus-ha. As explained in our opening topic (...easy to learn al Qur'an), when we refer to the Wikipedia dictionary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading, the word "read" or "reading" means a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to construct or derive a meaning (reading comprehension) or in brief, reading is a process by which we derive the meaning"  or simply, read to understand. There is no dictionary in the world that defined "Read - to read without understanding" A simple illustration, you hire a Korean teacher to teach science in the Korean language to students who only understand English...?? How can the student benefit from this type of learning?? Likewise, it will be the same when you read al-Qur'an, but DO NOT UNDERSTAND its meaning... of course, the most common answer by those who disagree with this view is that one can refer to the translation. Nevertheless, when observes, most of the time, the al Qur'an has been read without referring to the translation. Are you (especially the Quranic teacher who advises understanding the al Quran's Arabic language is not compulsory or wajib?) willing to take responsibility on judgment day for people who remain ignorant of the guidance (since they do not understand) of the al-Qur'an? 

Just imagine you are in this situation...! 

Topic on why we as Muslims MUST understand Al-Quran Arabic language has been discussed at length in Topic 1 of this blog,  so the writer will not dwell much on the same topic.

Imagine one performs salat without understanding the verses he read. Chances, he may be thinking something else... 

......May Allah provides us the ability to be in the state of "khusyuk" while performing our salat. (See definition of khusyuk in (2:45-46).  Imagine.....

When one does not understand, chances for him to sway from focusing his salat are great; thus, it will be difficult to obtain humbly submission ("khusyuk"). Actually, khusyuk does not merely mean one must be focus only on salat; the definition of khusyuk is wide. You must take Prophet Muhammad S.A.W as an example to understand the true meaning of Khusyuk. Perhaps, we can deal with this subject matter at a later stage.

Al-Araf (7:52)

We had certainly brought to them a Book (the Qur'an) which We have explained in detail with knowledge, as guidance and mercy to a people who believe.

Islam is truly a complete way of Life..! 

  But somehow, many now....do not take Islam as a way of life. Most will perform their ritual salat, fasting in the month of Ramadhan, zakat, etc...but is that what Islam is all about? Just performing the common rituals? Can one get humbly submission just performing the ritual?. Allah says

 Al-Baqarah (2:45-46)

What it means, apart from your ritual, you must learn about Islam, learn the Arabic language of the al-Qur'an, teach what you learn, help spread the religion of Islam, infaq (spend a portion of your money and wealth for the cause of Islam, e.g., help build a religious school, mosque, etc.) to the cause of Islam, support Islam as a way of life. Allah says, take Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. is a good example. Spend time to read about prophet Muhammad and his companions' lives...you will understand what the above ayat actually means.

Al-Ahzab (33:21)

Why Muslim do not want to take Islam as a way of Life? They prefer worldly things instead of Allah's guidance! They have no time to think about Allah's guidance! But they have time to enjoy what Allah grants them in this world......

Muhammad (47:24)

They do not realize that by ignoring Allah's ways of Life, Allah has allowed satan (devil) to be their companion..!??

Why is it wajib to understand al Quran?

What it means...recite it with a true recital? It's reading, know the meaning, understand and believe in it, implement...(amal)

Allah repeated the above ayat four (4) times in Surah Al Qamar.

When Allah repeated many times that it is easy to understand al Quran, impliedly it means it is wajib to understand. What excuse can you give in the hereafter when you say you do not understand al Quran but in your worldly life, have a diploma, degree, Ph.D., etc.???

As-Saff (61:2)

Most of us Muslims pray five (5) times a day; we recite al Fatihah...as the main surah and other ayat.

Now, let's look at the nos. of times you have prayed over the years.

How can you answer Allah? You do not understand what you have been saying in your prayer after praying for 10...50 or more years? Can Allah accept your excuses such as no time, no teacher, etc.?

Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. knows how to speak Arabic Fus-ha; why don't we follow him as an example and make an effort to learn Arabic Fus-ha? Can you answer by saying that we are not Arab, so how can we understand Arabic, or is it difficult to learn Arabic?
